Lemon Grass
Native to India, lemon grass is an herb plant that currently commonly used to improve the flavors of food, or used for medicinal benefits. As far as spices go, lemon grass is not quite as spicy as most spices that come from India (though it must be pointed out that lemon grass is more prevalent in Southeast Asia, and could also be found in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Australia and Thailand). Commonly used in marinades, curries, stir fries and soups – often, these involve coconut milk and seafood in Southeast Asian cuisine – lemon grass is known to have a clean citrus flavor whether it is sold fresh or dry. Like most other herbs, it is preferred that lemon grass be bought fresh, as most of its flavors and effects are best experienced at that state.
Lemon grass, especially FRESH lemon grass is not something that you would commonly find in any old United Kingdom grocery store – this is why not many British people have easy access to lemon grass.
